Dem boss: Andy looks like a go

The head of the state Democratic Party — a key ally of Gov. Paterson — conceded for the first time yesterday that Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is “prepared” to run for governor next year.

State party Chairman Jay Jacobs, who, at Paterson’s urging, got the job in September, also said he wouldn’t try to stop Cuomo from challenging the incumbent, although he said he would remain loyal to the unpopular governor.

“It is my sense that Andrew Cuomo is well prepared to run,” Jacobs told The Post. “He certainly has that option.”

Jacobs, who also serves as chairman of the Nassau County Democratic Committee, wouldn’t predict what Cuomo would do, but said he expected him to make a decision “in the next couple of months.”

Jacobs refused to say if he felt the unelected Paterson would survive as the Democratic candidate for governor should Cuomo enter the race.
